Ancient burial grounds

“In order to drain the plain of Athens... workmen... were in activity on the stony hills north of the Piraeus, to remove the earth and fill up the pestilential swamps of the plains, when on a sudden they came upon the ancient burial grounds, and many sepulchers were found and opened... Modern travelers have opened many of these tombs... Dodwell employed ten men, who, in nine hours, opened thirty tombs.”
